About
Giziibii (meaning big river) RC&D is a unique program that helps people protect and develop their economic, natural and social resources in ways that improve their area’s economy, environment, and quality of life. The RC&D program was established in the Agriculture Act of 1962. Headwaters RC&D was incorporated in Minnesota on June 17, 1974 and later changed its name to Giziibii RC&D. The council consists of representatives from five counties: Lake of the Woods, Beltrami, Hubbard, Clearwater, Mahnomen and three Reservations: Red Lake, Leech Lake, and White Earth.
Over its 38 year history Giziibii RC&D has primarily acted as a conduit between USDA, rural development and conservation programs and the local community. Giziibii RC&D has provided grant research, writing, management and fiscal agency services to deliver community initiated and driven projects.
